Land Strategies Plans Awarded Industry Honors
Metropolitan Planning Council's
2005 Burnham Award for Excellence in Planning
Land Strategies recently received the 2005 Burnham Award for Excellence in Planning from the Metropolitan Planning Council for its participation on the project team responsible for the City of Waukegan's Lakefront-Downtown Urban Design Plan.
The Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group of business and civic leaders committed to serving the public interest through the promotion and implementation of sensible planning and development policies necessary for an economically competitive Chicago region. Since 1988, the MPC has recognized one innovative project per year with the Burnham Award for Excellence in Planning. The project team was recognized at the MPC's Annual Luncheon, where Mayor Richard M. Daley presented the keynote speech. Read more details about the award.

The Congress for the New Urbanism
The Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU), an interdisciplinary nonprofit supporting sensible urban planning, honored the City of Waukegan Master Plan with its 2005 Charter Award for excellence in neighborhood design. The plan was one of 14 projects that jurors selected from 136 submissions based on their success at enhancing communities and regions through excellence in urban design. The juried Charter Awards program is CNU's main vehicle for recognizing work that best embodies and advances the principles of the Charter of the New Urbanism. Land Strategies will receive its award at a ceremony in June during the Thirteenth Congress for the New Urbanism in Pasadena, California. Read more details about the award. |

The Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects
The Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects recognized Land Strategies and the project team with an Honor Award for its contribution to the Route 47/Kishwaukee River Corridor Preservation Project. The professional organization presents annual Honor Awards to projects that demonstrate unique, high-quality solutions to challenging problems and provide valuable information in landscape architecture. The Route 47/Kishwaukee River Corridor Preservation Project was a collaboration with Conservation Design Forum of Elmhurst, Illinois to plan for the development and preservation of an 8 mile long by 3 mile wide corridor straddling Route 47 in McHenry County. The Land Strategies plan protected environmentally sensitive areas while identifying opportunities for mixed use land development.
